Taiwan High-Speed Rail Corporation is making tremendous strides to protect the environment through a decrease in CO2, waste, and water consumption reports Environmental Leader in an article posted to their website on Feb. 2.

Spanning approximately 22 miles from the West Coast to Taipei, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation proudly operates one of the world's most successful privately owned railway systems, the article reports. With its $513 billion project taking off in 1998 and officially commencing operations in 2007, passengers are assured a safe journey with an impressive on-time record of 99% at speeds reaching up to 186 mph, the article notes.

The article underscores that not only is the company known for its impeccable sustainability standards, but it also lives by its motto of “Go the extra mile”. Its commitment to protecting our environment can be seen through initiatives such as conducting greenhouse gas inventories, encouraging waste reduction, and conserving electricity per passenger served. A few highlights include, pointed out by the article include the following:

  • The total volume of greenhouse gas emissions measured up to 281,696.73 metric tons of CO2 equivalents.
  • Last year, a total of 11,657.015 MWh of solar-generated energy was produced across the four depots and six stations combined.
  • 2021 is marked by a record-breaking amount of 1,613.104 metric tons of recycled waste and an impressive 27.1% recycling rate! Additionally, we are proud to announce that not one breach or leakage of oil, fuel chemical substances or waste has been reported this year.
  • On average, 12.380% more electricity was conserved in 2022 than the previous year per passenger served.
  • The company managed to decrease water consumption per passenger by 17.170% in comparison to last year.
