Continental Cement has awarded FLSmidth a contract to install the FUELFLEX Pyrolyzer technology at its Davenport cement plant in Buffalo, Iowa in the United States, reports Sol Klappholz for the website WorldCement.com today. According to the article, the decision was made after being impressed by the first pre-commercial installation of the technology at the Mannok cement plant in Ireland.

The FUELFLEX Pyrolyzer is a technology designed to help cement plants reduce their dependence on fossil fuels by using waste-derived fuels in the calciner, reports Klappholz. This technology has been implemented successfully at Mannok since July 2022 and is a cost-effective solution, as it requires lower CAPEX than other competing technologies, reports Klappholz.

According to the report, it helps control NOx emissions without needing ammonia water. Additionally, the installation process does not require a long shutdown period as the majority of the work can be carried out while the plant is functioning.
